‘I’m calling him out’ – Amir Khan asks for Floyd Mayweather fight two weeks after retiring from boxing
British boxing legend Amir Khan appears to be ready to step back in the ring just two weeks after announcing his retirement from the sport - to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The former unified light-welterweight champion recently walked away from boxing following a sixth-round stoppage defeat against long-time rival Kell Brook earlier this year.
Just days later and it appears Khan’s fighting spirit is getting the best of him after watching Floyd Mayweather in his latest exhibition bout against Don Moore in Abu Dhabi.
“We saw the event today, I think Floyd needs a real challenge,” Khan said in an interview with .
“We should do it, 100 per cent guys. Either hit me up or hit my brother up.
“I’m calling him out! Let’s make it happen.”
‘King Khan’ bumped into Mayweather ahead of his latest fight and the 50-0 retired boxer tried to convince him to postpone his retirement so they could finally face off.
“Floyd said to me ‘Look, we should get it on’. And I said ‘Brother, tomorrow I’m going to announce my retirement’. And he goes ‘No, I don’t think you should’,” Khan told talkSPORT.
The Bolton man came close to facing Mayweather in 2014 but the fight never happened, and Khan ultimately ended up moving through the weights to secure a career-defining fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who knocked him out inside six rounds.
