Rooney has reportedly held talks with KSI's influencer boxing promotion Misfits and even shot the British YouTube sensation a message calling him out for a fight.

KSI revealed that Rooney had reached out in December 2022 ahead of his fourth professional outing against FaZe Temperrr but now he has lifted the lid on exactly what the Manchester United icon wrote to him.

KSI said on the Sidemen podcast: "Alright, I've got it, 5th of December, 2022 at 3.50am.

"(Rooney text), 'Hi mate, what you think on me and you having a boxing fight. I think we could generate a lot of money. You up for it.'

"No question mark, just full stop. He's not asking! (The text continues), 'We could sell out stadium with right support and both make good money.'"

Rooney's move into boxing has been in the works for years.

The 38-year-old is an avid fan of the sport and even had a couple of amateur bouts in his youth.

Back in 2019, Eddie Hearn teased the idea of working with Rooney for a charity fight.

"He loves it. He’s been boxing in amateur clubs," said Hearn. "Wayne would love to do a charity fight. All these guys, they love boxing."

Hearn even floated around the idea of Rooney going toe-to-toe with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at Old Trafford last year.

"Wayne Rooney had a very limited amateur pedigree but could still fight," he added.

"Wayne Rooney training, and I said to him, 'Imagine the shape you could get in as well. You'll get right back into shape.'
