Oscar De La Hoya lays out one condition Devin Haney must fulfil to land Ryan Garcia rematch and urges boxer to fire father
Oscar De La Hoya has urged Devin Haney to cut ties with his father Bill Haney ahead of his proposed rematch with Ryan Garcia.
The fierce rivals are set to compete in separate bouts in May as part of a Ring Magazine card, that will mark both fighter's first outings since their controversial inaugural encounter.
Last April, Garcia dropped Haney three times en route to an initial majority decision loss, which was later overturned to a no contest when it was found Garcia had tested positive for the banned substance ostarine.
He was subsequently banned from boxing for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) while Haney filed a lawsuit against Garcia and De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions alleging battery, fraud and breach of contract.
Providing Garcia gets through Rolly Romero and Haney overcomes Jose Ramirez in their respective next fights then a rematch is being targeted for October in Saudi Arabia.
However, De La Hoya insists the sequel won't happen until Haney drops his lawsuit.

Speaking during the most recent segment of his popular video series, De La Hoya opened up by tearing into Haney's dad and manager before laying out Golden Boy's demands.
“I feel sorry for Devin Haney because you hardly ever hear him speak because his dad does all the talking,” said De La Hoya.
“Sure, Devin had a bad loss this year, but it shouldn’t have been career-ending. It could have been easily fixed.
“If it wasn’t for his father and manager, Bill, who single-handedly turned it into a more toxic situation than Chornobyl.
"I have never seen a big f*** up for a boxer’s career in my life.
"All Devin had to do after losing to Ryan Garcia last April was say, ‘He beat me. I couldn’t block his left hook,’ and then get back in the gym.
