Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather endured an acrimonious split after ‘TBE’ uncovered private messages
Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather's partnership came to an acrimonious end in 2022.
'Tank' spent a long stretch of his career fighting under Mayweather Promotions, although he had endured a rocky relationship with his mentor since he first became world champion in 2017 (winning the IBF super featherweight title against Jose Pedraza).
Davis and Mayweather were at odds during the promotion for his WBA 'regular' lightweight scrap with Rolly Romero in May 2022 and parted ways shortly after.
Mayweather missed several of the pre-fight media events and wasn't in attendance at the Capital One Arena, Washington, to witness his protégé blast out Romero in six rounds.
Thereafter, it was announced that Davis had cut ties with Mayweather and was to continue his career under the guidance of his existing adviser Al Haymon.
The split seemed to be amicable at first but cracks began to show with time.

Before his fight with Ryan Garcia in April 2023, Davis accused Mayweather of stopping him from training at the Mayweather gym.
In a since-deleted tweet, Davis wrote: "What? That Floyd's petty ass said I couldn't use his gym anymore. I don't give a f***!
"Nah, it's not what I heard, it's what I know, chump!"
Those bridges looked to have been mended by fight night with Mayweather seen celebrating the Baltimore banger's seventh-round stoppage win at ringside.
The niceties didn't last long as both men began trading barbs on social media shortly after and haven't seen eye to eye since.
Why did Mayweather and Davis split?
There are conflicting accounts on why Davis and Mayweather parted company.
“They sent it to Floyd, and he bugged out.”
Shortly after, Mayweather gave Davis an ultimatum that soured their relationship.
“I was in a lose-lose situation,” Davis added. “He was like, you’ve got to fight this fighter, which is Jose Pedraza.
