Davis could be heard saying: "I'm going to stop you! Want to bet?"

To which, Roach replied: "250k."

Davis gleefully shook Roach's hand and added: "250K?! Bet! I'm going to stop him, watch!”

However, Roach proved a much sterner test than 'Tank' had anticipated.

Not only did Roach make it to the final bell, he also proved to be Davis' toughest challenge to date.

'The Reaper' pushed Davis all the way to the final bell and handed him the first blemish on his record via a majority draw.

Two of the judges couldn't separate them at 114-114 even while the third edged it to Davis by a margin of 115-113.

There was a controversial moment in the ninth round when Davis took a knee after a grazing jab temporarily impaired his vision.

Referee Steve Willis did not score a knockdown.

However, if he had it would have swung the fight in Roach's favour.

Davis later blamed greasy hair product for him touching down, but by the letter of the law Willis should have scored a knockdown.

"I just got my hair done two days ago and she put grease in my s***," said Davis.

"When you are sweating and s*** like that, the grease came into my face and it burnt my eyes."

A cacophony of boos then began to ring around the sold out Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"Yo why you all booing like I'm talking b*****?" 'Tank' shouted.

";Look at my hair, I just got my s*** done."

And Davis must now fork out $250,000, making it one expensive haircut.

Meanwhile, the controversy around the fight continues, with several of boxing's biggest stars adamant that Roach won.

In a series of tweets, Terence Crawford expressed his disappointment that Roach didn't win.

He said: "Roach won and that should have been called a knock down. Let’s see what happens.

"They robbed that boy and it’s crazy.

";I never seen someone take a knee and they don’t count it as a knock down. Must of forgot the rules for tonight."

Despite seeing his win streak ended, Davis kept hold of his WBA lightweight title and will no doubt run it back with Roach soon.
