‘Wow’ – Rolly Romero stuns fans with $40,000 Back to the Future outfit for Ryan Garcia fight

Rolando Romero will have $40,000 on his feet when he mixes it up with Ryan Garcia in Times Square.

Romero faces rival Garcia in the headline act of Ring Magazine's latest 'Fatal Fury' card in New York City in the early hours of Saturday morning for UK fans.

'Rolly' boasts a pro record of 16-2, with his only defeats against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz coming in his last four fights.

Garcia, meanwhile, has just one defeat to his name which came against fellow superstar Davis in 2023.

The pair are moving up to 147 pounds for the fight, with the WBA's secondary welterweight belt on the line.

New York City will close down Times Square for the fight, with those in attendance there on an invite-only basis, and fans allowed to watch for free on giant screens around the outdoor arena.

The card also features fellow stars Devin Haney, who faces Jose Ramirez, while Teofimo Lopez fights Arnold Barboza Jr.

The shoes were 'deconstructed' by Aztek Kustoms designer Jose Coronado, who - according to TMZ Sports - spent almost 50 hours making sure they were felt for the ring.

Most fans were in love with the shoes, as one called them a 'dream' pair to wear in the squared circle.

However, others teased Romero for putting in the effort to get the shoes 'just to get knocked out,'

Nike made the original shoes inspired by the ones worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future Part II.

Romero's version will include working LED lights and the same markings of the original ones worn by McFly in the film.

A pair of Nike self-lacing shoes, which were inspired by the ones featured in the same film, just sold for more than $52,500 (£39,000) at a public auction in America.

In 2024, a similar pair sold for over $100,000 in a private charity auction in Hong Kong that was raising money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

So Romero may have some valuable kicks at his disposal, especially if he causes an upset in Times Square.

His opponent, Garcia, is fighting for the first time serving a one-year suspension with the New York Athletic Commission (NYSAC).

He tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug PED ostarine in two Voluntary Ansi-Doping Association (VADA) drug tests taken one day before and one the day of his shocking victory over Haney.

Garcia defeated his bitter rival Haney in a remarkable upset last year, but the result was overturned to a no-contest following his drug failings.

Haney is expected to fight Garcia next if both men come out victorious.

But British star Conor Benn has also been suggested as a suitable next opponent for 'King Ryan.'
