Manny Pacquiao, 42, is considering retiring from boxing after being outclassed by Yordenis Ugas in unanimous decision loss

Manny Pacquiao went from taking on Errol Spence Jr in a superfight to losing to Yordenis Ugas by unanimous decision in the space of seven days.

Ugas rightly secured a sweeping 115-113, 116-112, 116-112 decision after nullifying the Fillipino’s threats and Pacquiao was unable to find the answers to the Cuban’s pressure.

The 42 year old failed in his bid to capture the WBA welterweight super title and the result has left many boxing fans wondering how much is left for Pacquiao.

There is no denying his legacy. Pacquiao is the only fighter ever to hold world titles in four different decades.

Ahead of the fight, it was rumoured that Ugas was carrying an injury on his left bicep, but his management moved to deny those reports and said that he was ‘100 percent’ for the contest.

That proved to be an accurate assessment. Ugas’ leaping right hand continually caught Pacquiao and the former eight-division couldn’t make the adjustments to prevent it from happening. Ugas was moving Pacquiao across the ring with the shot at times.

Pacquiao had spent 25 months out of the ring prior to this fight. Last time out he had defeated the previously unbeaten Keith Thurman in a virtuoso performance that led many to believe he was defying father time.

But Ugas was just far too sharp for Pacquiao on this occasion and had he been faced with the precocious Spence Jr, it would have been a very bad night for Pac Man all things considered.

As a result, Ugas actually called out Spence Jr after the fight.

Pacquiao didn’t comment on whether he would box again after the fight, but he did suggest he’s considering it, saying: “I don’t know. Let me relax and then make a decision.”

Ugas is an Olympic medallist seven years Pacquiao’s junior. Whether Ugas has sent Pacquiao into retirement or not, this is a huge win on his resumè that certainly pushes him forward into big time matchups.

Pacquiao had previously expressed an interest in facing Floyd Mayweather again and perhaps even taking on Josh Taylor, but it appears we are all going to have to wait for his decision.
