‘Cringy’ – Scott Williams does cheeky ‘no look 180’ but fans aren’t impressed with showboating star

Scott Williams pulled off a no-look 180 in his first-round win at the World Darts Championship - but fans weren't impressed.

The Englishman's opponent, Niko Springer, hit the 200th maximum of the tournament to pile on the pressure.

But Williams was equal to it and pulled off one of his own, turning his head after flinging the deciding dart.

'Shaggy' shot an ice-cold stare into the Alexandra Palace crowd after his effort.

Eagle-eyed viewers were not impressed, however.

";Corniest thing in darts," one posted on X.

Another added: "Throws it and looks away after. It’s just cringy."

Smith endured an awful first set but bounced back to take a 3-1 triumph over his first-round rival.

He also enjoyed some banter with the crowd after missing treble 19 when looking to close out the second nine-darter of the tournament.

Last year's semi-finalist found himself in trouble against his German opponent, who claimed the first set.

However, 34-year-old Williams upped his game to seal his place in round two where he will face fifth seed Rob Cross on Monday.

"People don't realise. I've only been playing this game seriously for four years, five years, but some of these youth players, he's been playing at a good level since he was ten," he said after the win.

"I've just played in a pub and I've turned up and I'm decent at the game, I'm able to earn a living off in that.

"Even now, I'm still new to all this, so I'm trying my hardest to know how to react in the right way, how to react on the stage, off the stage."

Springer is one of the rising stars in darts and averaged almost 99 over the match.

But Williams showed his experience and made nine of 22 check-out chances.

The veteran was full of praise for the German after a har-fought win.

Williams added: "He's going to tear up some trees this year, he's going to upset a lot of the players.

"Not with his mannerisms and stuff like that, I think his ability is incredible."

Williams is close friends with Cross an plans to practice with him ahead of their collision.

"I give him far too much respect last time," he said. "We know the score, we'll have a practice the next couple of days, we'll practice together, we'll be great and we'll have a great time.

"But as soon as it comes to half past nine, ten o'clock, Monday night, it's gloves off and we're there to win the game, we're there to take one off each other."
