Manchester United flop Adnan Januzaj could join Barcelona on free transfer as Xavi eyes Belgian winger starring for Real Sociedad

Former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj could be set to return to stardom with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
Januzaj is currently plying his trade with Real Sociedad in LaLiga, and has been part of the club’s recent success, but could leave for free when his contract expires next summer.
Cash strapped Barca are looking for ways to manoeuvre around their estimated £1.16billion worth of debt, and Januzaj has been singled out as a solution, according to reports in Spain.
Januzaj was seen as a huge prospect when he joined United from Anderlecht as a 16-year-old in 2011 and, despite early success under David Moyes, the Belgian fell out of favour under Louis van Gaal Jose Mourinho.
Loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland failed to help the forward progress, but he revived his career at Sociedad following his 2017 move to Spain.
He’s since become a Copa del Rey winner and has been part of the side establishing themselves as regular contenders for European football.
Spanish outlet Sport claim the 26-year-old’s preference was to remain in the Basque country as he approaches the final months of his contract, but Barca’s interest has complicated matters.
And reports in Spain claim a move could come as early as January if the price is right.
The former Sunderland and Dortmund loanee has returned to the fringes of Roberto Martinez’ Belgium squad in recent years, and with more exposure at the Camp Nou, he could feature at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
After leaving Old Trafford in 2017, Januzaj blamed his departure on former boss Van Gaal with the two beginning a bizarre public war of words.
"It was [van Gaal's] staff because I had to do whatever he was saying,” Januzaj explained. “I was a young boy, I just had to stay calm and, like we say, I just had to shut up and work on the pitch, that's it.
“That's the most you could do, there's nothing else you could do. You just had to accept it and enjoy and play for your football."
Van Gaal later emphatically hit back at the criticism saying: "I have absolutely no need to defend myself against so much injustice.
"The self-image of players leaves the wishes, and my career as a manager shows just how many young players could take their chances under my leadership.”
