Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy says Rafa Benitez has ‘history of falling out with players’ and is ‘doomed’ at Everton

There's no way Rafael Benitez can turn around Everton's fortunes to the satisfaction of Toffees fans.
This is the view of former Liverpool star Danny Murphy, who believes the Spaniard has nowhere left to go in his bid to convince fans he's the right man for the Goodison Park helm.
Benitez is under serious pressure with Everton winning just one of their last ten Premier League matches.
It appeared they'd turned a corner with their comeback win over Arsenal, however, any hope of that appears to have been diminished by their defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.
The recent departure of Marcel Brands as director of football appeared to buy Benitez more time.
But Murphy, who played under Benitez at Anfield, believes the Spaniard's time on the blue half of Merseyside was always going to end in tears.
"He's doomed," Murphy said on White and Jordan. "He doesn't have the squad to pull it round.
"He can't take Everton to a level he needs to for the Evertonians to be happy with that squad.
"When he first went in there I thought from a footballing perspective, what he's done before, it looked like a decent appointment.
"I forgot, not living in the area and not thinking about it, about the Liverpool connection and the things he said about Everton, it was always destined to end in turmoil."
While it seems Benitez has lost, or possibly never had a lot of Everton fans, it looks like he's losing the players too.
Richarlison was visibly disappointed when he was substituted in the second half at Selhurst Park, trudging off the pitch. Meanwhile, Lucas Digne played no part amid a reported fallout with the manager.
Murphy pointed out how this isn't the first time Benitez has been in conflict with his players.
"Rafa's got a history of falling out with players who don't tow the line," Murphy added.
"Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, John Terry, at Real Madrid you had Ramos, Ronaldo and Alonso being the obvious one at Liverpool.
"What he's done with Digne, he's cut his nose off to spite his face. Maybe he's not playing because he's questioned him.
"But he's put Ben Godfrey, who's a centre-back, at left-back. And he can't play at left-back, Jordan Ayew destroyed him."
