Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde scored an extra-time winner to settle El Clasico in the Spanish Super Cup – and celebrated like Barcelona great Lionel Messi

Scoring an extra-time winner in El Clasico wasn't enough for Real Madrid's Federico Valverde - he had to make sure he mocked the Barcelona fans too.

The midfielder scored the winning goal for Real against their arch-rivals on Wednesday night and copied the celebration that his fellow South American, Lionel Messi, did in 2017.

That game ended 3-2 too, with Barca taking all three points at the Bernabeu that day, five years ago.

And, after Messi scored a 92nd-minute winner, he ran over to the fans, removed his shirt, and showed them his name and number.

After scoring a late goal himself, Valverde did the same (albeit less gracefully), appearing to poke fun at the Barca fans, after Messi left the club for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

Real took the lead three times in the match, with Barca coming back twice before they eventually made it 3-2 after 90 minutes.

Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema both had goals cancelled out by Luuk de Jong and Ansu Fati, before Valverde’s extra-time winner.

There was also a full Barcelona debut for former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.

Last season's La Liga champions Atletico Madrid take on Athletic Bilbao on Thursday in the other semi-final, with the winner facing Real Madrid in Sunday's final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
