Wolsfburg on the verge of deal for Chelsea midfield star, claims Allofs

Wolfsburg are on the verge of signing Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, according to the club’s director of sport Klaus Allofs.

The Bundesliga side are long-term admirers of the 22-year-old Belgian, who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea have been reluctant to let De Bruyne leave on a permanent deal, and would prefer another loan deal for the player who spent last season at Werder Bremen, scoring ten goals in 34 appearances.

Wolfsburg, however, who are backed by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen and have arguably the biggest spending power in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich, prefer a permanent move.

And Allofs feels they are now close to an agreement with Chelsea.

"It's not that we can confirm the deal just yet, but we are no longer so far apart with Chelsea that we can't bridge the differences," he said in the Wolfsburger Nachrichten newspaper.
