It was a familiar story for Manchester United as Southampton came from behind to get a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

For the third match in a row, the Red Devils started well and took the lead, but conceded in the second-half - and were lucky to escape with a point.

Jadon Sancho put Ralf Rangnick's side in front, but Che Adams equalised as United missed the opportunity to leapfrog West Ham in fourth.

Sam Matterface summed it up on commentary for talkSPORT: “Man United have conceded in the second-half, again. They’ve been rattled, again. They’re conceding all the chances, again.”

Ex-England winger Trevor Sinclair added: "Man United are all over the place."

Cristiano Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure, drawing a blank for the sixth match in a row after missing a glorious first-half opportunity.

But, like Burnley earlier this week, it was Southampton who bossed proceedings in the second-half and scuppered a number of good chances.

And Saints felt they should've won a penalty in the dying moments as Harry Maguire stamped on Armando Broja's ankle in the box, albeit accidentally, but VAR decided not to intervene.

Sinclair said: "He stands on him. He pushes him over and then he stands on his ankle.

“He’ll be lucky to get away with this. That was a bad trample from Maguire.

“It’s clumsy and he steps on him. I think that’s a penalty.”

After a promising start for the Red Devils, the match finished with Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard both getting booked for losing their heads, while Bruno Fernandes was lucky to escape punishment for lashing out at James Ward-Prowse.

The mood at Old Trafford was audibly sour as boos met the full-time whistle - and Rangnick will once again face questions over his underwhelming team of superstars.
