Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has called on his players to be more 'nasty' after their underwhelming 1-1 draw with Southampton.

For the third match running, the Red Devils threw away a lead and were forced to cling on after Che Adams cancelled out Jadon Sancho's opener.

Yet another draw leaves United in fifth place, behind West Ham, while Arsenal and Tottenham have games in hand.

Questions have been asked about the fitness of Rangnick's side, following such fast starts and slow finishes, but the German insists the problem is aggression.

When asked about the team's stamina, he told talkSPORT: "I don't know. There was not much time to improve and work on that in training.

"Whenever we have played so far, I don't see any fitness issues. It's more an issue of being aggressive as a team.

"Of course, our players are more technical players, more offensive-thinking players.

"Whenever we need more of this aggression against the ball, being more physical, even nasty I would say, this causes us problems."

And Rangnick admits concerns over finishing outside the top-four following such an alarming pattern in the club's last three games.

"We have given away six points in games, Aston Villa when we were 2-0 up, Burnley when we were 1-0 up, and today," he continued.

"This can happen once, but it shouldn't happen three times in a row. We should easily have more points and the situation would be different."

He added: "The fans are amazing, no matter if we play home or away. What I can tell them is we will work very hard every day in every training session to get the results we would like to get.

"But on the other hand, we have to be realistic and face the situation we are in right now."

"With games and results like today, we will struggle to finish fourth at the end of the season.

"We have to be more lethal, robust and decisive to reward ourselves in games like this."
