Harry Kane hailed ‘best centre-forward of his type’ as Harry Redknapp makes sly dig at Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

Harry Redknapp believes Harry Kane is one of the 'best centre-forwards of his type' and people got 'carried away' talking about his previous poor form.

Former Tottenham manager Redknapp was thrilled by the England captain's showing in their 3-2 win over Man City and even aimed a sly dig at Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

After a slow start, Kane now has seven goals in 22 Premier League games, with six in his last nine appearances.

Against league leaders City, Spurs' no.10 showed exactly why no one should write him off, with two excellent goals in their thrilling 3-2 win at the Etihad on Saturday night.

A key highlight from that match was the amount of times Kane dropped deep to receive the ball, and then proceed to play in Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski who ran in behind City's defence on numerous occasions.

And joining talkSPORT Breakfast, Redknapp was full of praise for the striker.

"Well I think people get carried away, early in the season [people were saying] 'Harry Kane oh he's this, he's lost it, he's not the [same]'," the ex-Spurs boss said.

"He's been playing in a team and did start to come a little bit deep at times but that's because he wants to be involved in the game.

"He's not going to stand up at the pitch and have seven touches of the ball is he?" Redknapp added, in a cheeky reference to Lukaku, who produced that unwanted statistic in Chelsea's victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

"He's going to get back and he wants to be involved in everything, and that's how he plays," he continued.

"He wants to win, he wants to play, he wants to be part of what's going on.

"Saturday he was further up the park and he still made some great passes, the pass for the first goal was incredible.

"But he's just a top player, top professional, for me he's the best centre-forward of his type and I wouldn't swap him for anybody."
