Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah has revealed the extent of his injuries after a reckless challenge from Naby Keita went unpunished in the Carabao Cup final.

The 22-year-old was on the receiving end of a mistimed tackle from the Liverpool player but referee Stuart Attwell and VAR thought it was fair.

Replays showed Keita went in studs up, catching Chalobah's groin and leaving him in visible pain but it wasn't deemed worthy of a booking

And, after the game, the young defender explained he needed to have his leg patched up following the incident.

Tweeting less than three hours after the conclusion of the penalty shootout, Chalobah said: "Had to get stitches because of this [Keita's challenge].

"Referee is right there I don’t get it??"

Just like Chalobah, Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was shocked Keita wasn't sent off.

“I’m surprised nothing has been said about it. We are now looking at it but for me Keita’s movement, he slows down,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.

“Then he goes for the tackle. They both go for the but Keita totally misses the ball. If you look here he totally misses the ball and hits the player really hard.

But despite calls for him to be sent off, the midfielder was left unpunished by referee Stuart Attwell

“For me, that is endangering the opposition. Endangering the player and that should be a red card. I don’t understand that the referee didn’t see it.

“I don’t understand at all that VAR has not seen it because this is really bad. I’m very surprised, very, very surprised.”

Chelsea fell at the last hurdle in the Carabao Cup, losing 11-10 on penalties in the final after Blues substitute goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga sent his spot-kick over the bar.

Although the game ended 0-0 after normal time and extra time, it was by no means short of action.

The match was packed full of controversial decisions, including Romelu Lukaku seeing a goal being ruled out for offside by a slim margin in extra-time.
