The clubs are not playing each other, however, Frankfurt were playing nearby, against Real Betis, in their Europa League last 16 tie on Wednesday night.

UEFA had moved the Frankfurt game to a day earlier to avoid the two matches clashing, given the Spanish rivals are located just a few miles away from Sevilla.

The unsavoury scenes from both supporters saw glass being shattered and some fans going in with hand-to-hand combat.

Spanish publication MARCA also gave some details on the situation in southern Spain.

"There were signs of possible altercations because the radical fans of the Frankfurt team have been causing incidents in the Andalusian capital all day," the report read.

"The police have advised and forced the closure of bars in the area to prevent it from going any further."

talkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams is reporting on the game, which is live on talkSPORT on Thursday evening and tweeted about how the fight started, according to his local information.

"There was some trouble in Seville tonight, from what I’m told instigated by Eintracht Frankfurt fans," he wrote.

One clip showed what appeared to be Frankfurt ultras running at the West Ham fans armed with sticks, while missiles were then thrown between the groups.
