Chelsea midfielder edging closer to exit, admits Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is "close" to leaving Stamford Bridge to join Wolfsburg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is "close" to leaving Stamford Bridge to join Wolfsburg.

The Bundesliga side have been in pursuit of the 22-year-old, who has been unable to nail down a regular first-team spot in west London.

And when asked about the former Genk man, Mourinho said: "Kevin is more than probably leaving, it's close."

Reports claim Wolfsburg will fork out a fee in the region of £16.7m for De Bruyne, who spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen.

Having re-signed Nemanja Matic from Benfica this week, Mourinho believes it is unlikely he will add to his squad again in the January transfer window.

He added: "I think it's more about people leaving than people coming in.

"I'm happy with the squad, we are building a team and squad not just for now but for the future. We don't desperately need [players]."

Meanwhile, Ryan Bertrand's loan switch to Aston Villa is the best move for the 24-year-old, and Chelsea, according to The Special One.

He said: "He's a good player, our player and he has to play (regularly). For Ryan we felt, and he agrees totally, that he needs to play."
