‘What’s happened to Dele Alli?’ – Harry Redknapp reveals he recommended Frank Lampard sign midfielder at Everton but now wonders where it’s all gone wrong for ex-Tottenham star

Dele Alli is a 'fantastic talent' who can get himself back into England contention, believes Harry Redknapp, but - for now - the former manager has been left thinking: 'What went wrong?'
Redknapp has revealed to talkSPORT he recommended the midfielder to nephew Frank Lampard in his new job at Everton, but now admits Dele is a shadow of the player he once was at his old club, Tottenham.
A deadline day signing from north London, Alli hasn't exactly hit the ground running since arriving on Merseyside.
He has only started once in his six appearances for the Toffees, hasn't scored or assisted any goals and remained on the bench as an unused substitute in the club's dramatic Premier League victory over Newcastle in midweek.
Given that he is still only 25-years-old, there is time on Alli's side to turn his career around and produce the form that made him such an exciting talent following his arrival at Spurs from MK Dons.
And whilst Redknapp thinks he can do that, he now wonders how a player of his talent can suffer such a severe drop in form and performances.
And he is also not a fan of the first impression he gave at his new club, after turning up for his first session with Everton in a Rolls Royce.
Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast, the FA Cup-winning coach said: “What’s happened to Dele Alli?
"Whoever his agent [is], whoever he may be, whoever said to him we’re going turn and sign for Everton football club, a proper football club in a working class area surrounded by terraced houses and people who work and graft... and suddenly he turns up in a Rolls Royce? I can't have that.
"I’ve been his biggest fan but, I mean, where’s the brains? Be honest!
"Before Frank took him, I texted Frank, and said: ‘Listen, Dele Alli, I think if you can get him going, he’s some player’.
“I’ve stuck up for him, I keep saying he’s a fantastic talent, but why’d you go and do that? Turning up in a Rolls Royce like that, it tells you everything about what's gone wrong for him.
"Listen, I love him, love him. He’s a fantastic talent and I’m desperate to see him get back in that team and get back in the England squad because I think he can really play.
"But people are working all week and saving up to take their kids to football, and they don't want to see that either. Be humble!"
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour asked: "What is it, Harry? Is he not working hard enough on the training field?"
Redknapp replied: "He can't be can he? I thought he'd go in there and be great. He had such talent, I loved him, I thought he was a superstar, but he can't get a game."
"I want to try and stick up for him," added talkSPORT host Brazil who, along with Rangers legend Ally McCoist, faced criticism - including from Lampard himself - for their take on the Rolls Royce situation.
"Aye," said McCoist. "We got a bit of stick and maybe it's a generational thing, some people have said it doesn't matter what he turns up in.
"But I think it does. You're setting an example and you're sending out a message, of course you are."
"It's even the youth teams players," said Parlour. "You go in the club car parks now and they've all got these big cars - they haven't kicked a ball in the first team! They think they've made it already!"
