Welsh supporters were euphoric last night following their historic victory over Austria in Cardiff, but one fan was more appreciative than most.

A spectacular Gareth Bale brace ensured that Rob Page's side reached the World Cup play-off final, where they will play Scotlan or Ukraine, following a 2-1 victory with fans left delighted at another memorable night in the Welsh capital.

Jamie O'Hara and Jason Cundy received plenty of calls from delighted Wales fans during Thursday night's edition of The Sports Bar, but one caller named Wayne really tugged at the heartstrings as he spoke of his gratitude for how the team at talkSPORT have helped him through a life-changing situation.

Wayne explained: "I’m totally blind, I lost my sight 12 years ago and I’ve watched some great Welsh sides, some great English sides, great Scottish sides, but tonight this was the best Welsh side and the best Welsh match that I’ve ever not watched!

“I listen to Laura [Woods], [Jamie] O’Hara, I’ve seen [Jason] Cundy, [Andy] Goldstein, I’ve listened to you all and since I lost my sight you’ve kept me going. Seriously now, you’ve kept me going.

“There was a time when I didn’t want to live and I used to listen to the radio and you got me interested in life again.

“Since I’ve gone blind I’ve got married again, I’ve got another daughter so my two daughters, Sam and Paris, two grandkids, Josh and Jacque and my life is brilliant, but as far as sport is concerned, I’ve never listened to a match like that.

“Going 2-0 up, winning 2-1 and the excitement at the end and everything else was brilliant.

“If we qualify, we qualify. If we don’t, I hope Scotland do if we don’t, but I want it to be us.

“You guys are brilliant. Tonight was brilliant. My brandy is brilliant. Everything’s great. Life’s brilliant, and it’s thanks to the Sports Bar along with my family and everything else.”

Wayne added: “In the last year I’ve had two heart attacks as well, but my life is brilliant.

"There’s so many people going through such bad things, but I can enjoy sport and enjoy the Sports Bar and for Wales when things are good, we’ve got to enjoy it – particularly after the rugby side lost to Italy at the weekend!

“Even if we don’t win, tonight was good enough for me.”

Responding to his comments, Cundy said: "Wayne, do you know what, thank you so much for sharing that with us and the people listening.

“You’re the people that we do it for and it means so much to us that we can have such an impact on your life. You’ve been through a difficult time, no doubt, but you’ve come through it and clearly your life is as sweet as it can be.

“What a call, thank you so much.”
