England 2022 World Cup fixtures: Three Lions to play before hosts Qatar on opening Monday as FIFA reveal shake up in match schedule

England will take to the 2022 World Cup stage before tournament hosts Qatar as FIFA revealed the match schedule.

The Three Lions face Iran at 1pm on Monday, November 21, competing on the opening day of the event for the first time since their triumph in 1966.

Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal take on the Netherlands in the opening match of this winter's competition at 10am, meaning the hosts will not be involved in the curtain raiser.

It's the first time this has happened since the 2006 World Cup - with Qatar to face Ecuador at 4pm, after England's clash with Iran.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions' group rivals the United States face either Scotland, Wales or Ukraine in the day's evening fixture, which gets under way at 7pm.

England's remaining group fixtures will see them face the United States - to whom they famously lost 1-0 at the 1950 finals and drew 1-1 after Rob Green's howler in 2010 - on Friday, November 25 and either Scotland, Wales or Ukraine on Tuesday, November 29 with both games kicking off at 7pm.
