Paul Scholes believes Mikel Arteta's behaviour was out of line in Arsenal's win against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Gunners won the crunch Premier League clash 3-1, but there were a number of contentious decisions throughout, and the Red Devils legend wasn't happy with the Spaniard's antics in the build up to the second goal.

Goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka gave the hosts victory, as they put themselves in pole position to secure Champions League football.

Four wins and a draw in their remaining five games will see the Gunners back in Europe's premier competition for the first time since 2017.

And should Arsenal keep up the form they produced in their last two games, against Man United and Chelsea, they could very well achieve their goals.

There were several incidents from the contest against the Red Devils, in which two penalties were awarded, one to each side.

Arsenal converted theirs, but in the lead up to the decision being given, Scholes was unhappy with Arteta's behaviour.

The situation occurred after Saka was impeded by Alex Telles.

Originally a goal had been given, as the ball broke to Eddie Nketiah who converted from close range.

But after a VAR check, the goal was ruled out for offside, but then pulled back for the foul on the Arsenal winger.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, United legend Scholes said: "At the time, I thought it was offside.

“I didn’t really think of the foul, to be honest. That brings into question whether it’s a clear and obvious error, which is the only reason it should go to the VAR.

"It’s a coming together, of course, it is."

After that, Scholes then gave his views on Arteta, who was remonstrating with referee Craig Pawson, as he made his way to the VAR monitor to review the incident.

The Spaniard went to the crowd and urged them to put pressure on the official to award the spot kick.

That led to the midfielder adding: "I think Arteta is a disgrace there. He shouldn’t be allowed to do that.

"If you see it again, he actually goes to the crowd to try and influence the referee a little. All the players around them as well."

"That shouldn’t be allowed. But it’s a little bit clumsy from Telles."
