Manchester United suffer 4-0 hammering against Brighton as Ralf Rangnick’s side slump in ‘men against boys’ display at Amex Stadium

Manchester United suffered another embarrassing defeat after falling to a 4-0 hammering against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
The opening goal came from Moises Caicedo, a boyhood United fan, who became the 100th player to net his first Premier League goal against the Red Devils.
With just a one-goal lead at the break, Marc Cucurella doubled their tally shortly after half-time as he slammed home with a stunning finish before heading off to celebrate with tears in his eyes.
Things then went from bad to worse as Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard made it 4-0 on the hour-mark.
It was an absolute capitulation from United as supporters sang 'you're not fit to wear the shirt', while Brighton supporters reveled in what was a history evening for the club.
While the Seagulls are now firmly on track to earn a top half finish, United's inferior goal difference means that sixth place is the highest that the club can finish this term, however West Ham and Wolves may have other ideas as they hunt down Ralf Rangnick's side.
It was a sluggish start to the match for United as Leandro Trossard pulled the strings early in the pitch, leading to some hairy moments for the away side's defence.
While outgoing star Juan Mata showed a couple of neat early touches, Caicedo's effort after 15 minutes of the match ensured that the Red Devils were firmly placed on the back foot on the south coast.
In fact, the boyhood Man United fan's effort made him the 100th player to score his first ever Premier League goal against the club, something that contributed to their downfall.
United were on the ropes and could have been further behind when Welbeck latched onto the ball on the edge of the area before lofting his effort over the top of David De Gea's bar.
Speaking at half-time, talkSPORT co-commentator Scott Minto said: "I’ve said it a couple of times now, United fans should be delighted that they’re only 1-0 down.
“Brighton fans will be delighted with how they’ve played, but will be wondering how they’re not two or three goals up."
As far as that wish is concerned, the Seagulls got their wish within minutes of the restart as Cucurella slammed home to make it two, before Gross and Trossard made it four before the hour-mark.
Edinson Cavani did find the back of the net from a corner, but was flagged for offside as a telltale sign that it simply wasn't going to be United's day.
But while United continued to push forward, Brighton held on to secure their first home win since Boxing Day.
Describing United's performance, Minto said: "Watching that is men against boys, it’s the first team against the youth team, it’s a team who are hungry and know what they’re doing against a team who are on the beach.
“I don’t care who you are or how you’re playing, the least you can do is give it absolutely everything and even with the ball they don’t quite know what to do.”
