It's an unwritten rule that Arsenal players shouldn't even hint at being friendly with Tottenham Hotspur given the clubs' historic rivalry.

And the feud is that strong that even players from overseas know how important it is - including Arsenal's new American signing, Matt Turner.

With the Gunners' No.2 keeper Bernd Leno's potentially leaving this summer, Turner could well serve as a good replacement when he joins Aaron Ramsdale and Arthur Okonkwo.

Expecting to sign for the Gunners at the start of next month for a fee of £5.75million, the 27-year-old waved farewell to his Major League Soccer team, New England Revolution, on Sunday.

The US international received a special send-off following his side's 2-1 victory over Minnesota United, celebrating his successful time with the club where he was previously voted Revolution team MVP and the Revolution Player of the Year.

But, despite the spirits being high at the Gillette Stadium and Turner happily taking the time to go round and thank fans and staff, there was one gesture that caused him to draw the line.

And his decision will have certainly earnt the affection of Arsenal fans, with some even dubbing him a 'legend' behind he's even signed.

Revolution uploaded a video on Twitter of their departing keeper signing fans' shirts after the game.

And it soon became clear why they'd written: "I think he’ll fit in just fine on his side of North London."

Turner is seen about to sign one of his own jerseys, when he realised it belonged to a supporter wearing a Spurs shirt, and then hilariously pulling away.

"Oh no. That’s disgusting," Turner joked as he turned away and pointed his pen at the Tottenham fan.

"That’s disgusting."

Gunners fans have been lapping the video up, too.

"He's already a legend before even touching the ball," one wrote in response to Revolution's tweet of the clip.

Whilst another said: "Players shouldn't do that to a fan but this is the kind of sh**housery I enjoy."

A good start for Turner already, then!
