Darwin Nunez scored FOUR times in Liverpool's 5-0 win in a friendly at RB Leipzig to highlight his quality ahead of his debut Premier League season.

The Uruguayan forward, who joined the Reds this summer in a deal that could rise to £85million, struck all four goals in the second half in what was a ruthless display of forward play.

His first was a penalty as his strike just crept into the net before adding another with a composed finish with his right foot after Liverpool won the ball in a dangerous area.

Nunez, 23, got his third as he got on the end of Harvey Elliott's low cross from the right on the stretch.

He then added a fourth in the final seconds to send a message to all those who expressed some doubts after Liverpool's first two pre-season matches in which the 23-year-old failed to fire.

"That's the best way obviously to stop all these discussions," reacted manager Jurgen Klopp, when asked about Nunez's blistering display.

"We always think that if you pay a lot of money then the players feel no pressure or whatever. They are all completely normal human beings and the first touch is not perfect then all of a sudden.

"This generation of players read social media, which is really not smart, but they do. All of a sudden you get in a rush and these kinds of things.

"He's a different striker to what we have or what we had, but he's a really good one.

"That's of course a perfect night for him."

Mohamed Salah had put the Merseysiders ahead at the Reb Bull Arena against the Bundesliga club in the first half with a calm finish before Nunez took over.

It's only pre-season but this stunning second-half display will settle Nunez down as he showed exactly why Liverpool forked out all that money for him.

He wasn't named in Klopp's strong starting line-up, who went ahead early on when Salah passed the ball past Peter Gulacsi after playing a one-two with Roberto Firmino.

The second half saw Nunez come on and he opened his goalscoring account six minutes later as his penalty, which was almost saved by Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, crept in after Luis Diaz was fouled in the box.

Moments later Nunez bagged his second and Liverpool's third with a crisp finish into the corner of the net after being played through by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Nunez's third came on his left peg as he just managed to get enough on Elliott's cross before the ball trickled in-off the post.

And the victory was rounded off in stoppage-time as Nunez's curling effort from the left dropped in with Blaswich unable to handle the strike.

Liverpool's next outing sees them take on Austrian side RB Salzburg on Wednesday.
