Manchester United didn't get off to the best start in their new Premier League season, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

But the Red Devils' could have been embarrassed before a ball was even kicked when they nearly walked out on the wrong side of the tunnel, with goalkeeper David de Gea saving the day.

The team were filmed queuing up, headed by captain Harry Maguire, ready to enter the pitch to kick-off their new season from the right-hand side of the tunnel.

And soon enough, De Gea was seen flagging the error to his skipper.

The Spaniard had a concerned look on his face and the conversation was inaudible. However, it was quite obvious what the goalkeeper was getting at.

The confusion may have come from manager Erik ten Hag's request for the dugouts at Old Trafford to be switched around ahead of the new season, meaning Maguire was simply standing there from habit.

Sure enough, after a moment, the England centre-back clicked into gear as he realised where he was supposed to be standing.

And after a few seconds of deliberation, Maguire moved to ask Seagulls captain Lewis Dunk to swap, a request the Brighton skipper agreed to.

De Gea and Maguire appeared to continue to converse after the switch over was completed, before getting back to preparing for the match.

But this was the least of the club's problems as they begun the season with defeat.

Ten Hag's side will be looking to improve on their opening day result as they travel to London to face Brentford on Saturday.
