Kevin De Bruyne put in a masterful performance as Manchester City gave Bournemouth a Premier League reality check by beating them 4-0 at the Etihad on Saturday.

The champions ran out comfortable winners against the newly promoted side, despite their impressive 2-0 opening weekend victory over Aston Villa.

City got off to a high-tempo start as expected, forcing a corner within the very first minute.

Inside the opening ten, Nathan Ake, Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden had all gone close, but no breakthrough was made.

It didn't take too much longer though, as City took the lead with 19 minutes gone.

Ilkay Gundogan placed a fine finish past Mark Travers after playing a neat one-two with Erling Haaland.

Bournemouth mounted their first attack of the game in the 22nd minute with Ben Pearson seeing his shot comfortably saved by Ederson.

Just after the half-hour mark, City doubled their advantage thanks to a sublime moment from Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian cut in from the right-hand side and, as defenders converged on the edge of the penalty box, curled a shot with the outside of his boot to find the far corner of Travers' net.

By half-time it was 3-0 as a rare Bournemouth attack ended with Scott Parker's side being hit on the break.

Mahrez hoovered up a loose pass and played in De Bruyne, who waited for the run of Foden before slipping the ball through for the England midfielder to apply the finish.

In the second half, the hosts continued their dominance.

It took time, but City's fourth goal arrived in the 79th minute after some fine play by Joao Cancelo to create space on the left of the penalty area.

His cross was intended for substitute Bernardo Silva - who came on despite currently being linked with a move away from the club - but caught the heel of Jefferson Lerma to deflect into the net.

There were no further goals and the match ended 4-0.
