Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta lauded the mentality of striker Gabriel Jesus but revealed the Brazilian was 'upset' despite netting twice in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leicester City.

The Brazilian scored seven times for the Gunners in pre-season following his £43million move from Manchester City and opened his Premier League account at the Emirates in Saturday’s victory.

Arteta was delighted with the striker’s display but revealed he was upset after the game as he felt he could have scored more goals.

“Two goals, two assists and the player is still in the dressing room upset,” Arteta told talkSPORT after his side maintained their 100 percent start to the season.

“That’s the mentality, he wants more. He said he could have scored another two. That kind of mentality - to win is fine but I can always do better.

Arteta pointed to Jesus’ winning mentality when he signed for the Gunners last month and it already looks as though the Brazilian’s influence is paying off on his team-mates as Arsenal continued their perfect start to the campaign.

Arteta believes his new number nine is more than just a central striker and can be a threat from a number of positions

“He can play in a lot of different positions. Some of the chances created today were starting from a different position and that’s his threat, that he can utilise different spaces and be very productive. I think he was phenomenal today.”

Despite not finding the net in the Gunners’ opener at Crystal Palace last week, Jesus more than made up for it in Saturday’s win, playing a part in all four of his side's goals.

It remains to be seen what impact Jesus has on Arsenal this season but early signs suggest the 25-year-old could be the catalyst to fire the north London side back into the Champions League for the first time since 2018.
