Trevor Sinclair believes that Manchester United fans are 'delusional' for thinking that the #EmptyOldTrafford initiative will impact the club's owners.

Supporters are at the end of their tether with the Glazer family's ownership of the club that has seen the American moguls leave the club saddled with debt while the playing team continues to look like a shell of their former selves.

A poor start in the Premier League under Erik ten Hag has only strengthened that ill-feeling further, with a defeat to Brighton being followed by a morale-crushing 4-0 loss to Brentford last weekend, leaving the Red Devils bottom of the table.

Since the start of the new campaign, supporters have been plotting a new way to show their dissatisfaction at the way that the club is being managed, with #EmptyOldTrafford being the plan for fans to boycott the crunch clash with rivals Liverpool on Monday, live on talkSPORT.

However according to Sinclair, the global reach of a club like United means that such a protest is destined to fail.

Speaking on White and Jordan, Sinclair said: "I heard something trending about Manchester United, #EmptyOldTrafford.

"I think that the fans are delusional.

"It’s such a tourist fanbase, sorry to use the expression, but it is.

“If normal fans who go to games aren’t going to go to games, tourists will buy those tickets and so it’s not going to affect anything.

“As Simon [Jordan] said earlier, it’s not the fans who are bankrolling Manchester United, it’s the sponsors, the TV broadcasters and so I don’t know if this is going to do anything for Manchester United fans.”
