Liverpool have been handed a boost ahead of their clash with Manchester United as Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita are in-line to start.

The Reds take on their fiercest rivals at Old Trafford on Monday - live on talkSPORT - amid an injury crisis, but two key players are set to return to the fold.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have got their Premier League challenge off to a less than stellar start with draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace to begin with.

Their next opponents, United, have had things even worse though, losing 2-1 to Brighton before a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Brentford.

Liverpool’s last clash saw them draw 1-1 with Palace with as many as 10 first team injuries, but that number has now been cut by two, as Klopp revealed.

"Naby [Keita] was ill for a week, last game on the bench, is fully in training, looks really good. All fine,” he said.

"Bobby [Firmino] has trained completely normally and is ready."

Klopp also revealed that Joe Gomez will start against Manchester United after being eased back in off the bench against Palace with Nat Phillips a surprise starter.

He said: "It is an opportunity. He only came back to team training on Sunday from a little issue.

“Nat Phillips played a really good game against Palace. Joe is back, he will start and it's a big opportunity."

The German coach was also asked about two players in particular, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones.

"Getting closer,” he said. “Ask after the game again but no chance for this game."

The Firmino and Keita news will come as a huge boost to Liverpool who are struggling in all areas of the pitch.

The team lost prolific forward Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich during the summer, and his replacement, Darwin Nunez, was sent off for a headbutt on Joachim Andersen last time out.

Jota, who finished third in scoring for the Reds last season behind Mohamed Salah and Mane is yet to return, but Firmino should come as a boost having scored a brace away at Old Trafford last year.

Liverpool's injury list is still extensive though, with Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher all on the sideline.
