Crystal Palace are hoping to sign Conor Gallagher for a second time – if Chelsea agree to send the England midfielder out on loan.

Gallagher is sought after by a host of Premier League clubs including West Ham and Everton.

But the Eagles believe the 22-year-old would favour a return to Selhurst Park after excelling there last season and catapulting himself into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

It is not guaranteed Chelsea will accept offers for Gallagher, who made his full Blues debut in last weekend’s 3-0 thrashing at Leeds.

But talkSPORT has been told Gallagher wants assurances from manager Thomas Tuchel that he will play enough minutes to put himself in contention for a World Cup place.

Everton have asked Chelsea to include Gallagher in any deal for Anthony Gordon.

VILLA SET TO SEAL BED DEAL

Aston Villa are set to see off late interest from West Ham to sign Southampton defender Jan Bednarek.

Villa are in advanced negotiations with Saints about a move for Polish international Bednarek, who has fallen out of favour on the south coast.

Saints value Bednarek at £15m so are pushing for either a substantial loan fee or a permanent deal.

Villa moved for Bednarek after summer signing Diego Carlos ruptured his Achilles.

West Ham have also enquired about the 26-year-old but it appears unlikely they can hijack the deal.

WILSON WORRIES SPARKED MAGPIES MOVE

Newcastle’s club record £60m move for Sweden striker Alexander Isak was only sparked by Callum Wilson’s latest lay-off.

The Magpies were not planning on spending such big money on one player until Wilson damaged his hamstring and their lack of alternative options were laid bare.

The club’s Saudi owners then agreed to increase Eddie Howe’s summer budget to fund the swoop for Real Sociedad ace Isak.

The good news for Wilson, whose career has been blighted by injury, is that he does not face another extended spell on the sidelines.

But it will be a race against time to be fully fit in time for the upcoming Nations League games next month, when the former Bournemouth star was aiming to earn an England recall.

BEGOVIC DENIED MAN UNITED MOVE

Everton blocked Manchester United’s attempts to sign Asmir Begovic after failing to find a suitable replacement.

Premier League winner Begovic, 35, had been earmarked as an option to provide back-up for David de Gea following Dean Henderson’s loan move to Nottingham Forest.

Old Trafford top brass believed Begovic would have been a good character to introduce to the dressing room.

But United have now focused their efforts on signing Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka instead, raising big question marks over their decision to sanction Henderson’s move.

Henderson’s ability to play out from the back would surely have made him a better option for new manager Erik ten Hag as number on than De Gea.
