Toni Kroos and Luka Modric try incredible Real Madrid robot wall as they take free-kick training to the next level

Robots are coming to football and, right now, they're on Real Madrid's side.

If you thought semi-automated VAR at the World Cup was a step closer to a dystopian future you aren't ready for, then look away now.

Los Blancos may well have won the Champions League for the 14th time last season, along with their 35th LaLiga title, but their quest for glory is never-ending.

As such, they have looked to seriously up their game on the training pitch to give them a better chance of winning when it comes to matchday.

Set-pieces are where the teams who prepare the best can get themselves and extra few goals every season.

And now, with specialist free-kick takers Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale no longer in their squad, they're aiming to add to their haul from dead balls.

How do you go about doing that?

Well, Real Madrid now have a robot wall to hand, rather than a set of static mannequins.

These automatons can have their height programmed just in case you're up against a giant like Zlatan Ibrahimovic - although the Spaniards used David Alaba, Karim Benzema and Federico Valverde in their showcase.

They also 'jump' as the ball is struck to create a realistic match situation.

Clearly the Los Blancos lads have been practicing though, as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Eder Militao, and Dani Ceballos all beat the wall with ease to find the back of the net.

But we may well see this a lot more in the future - probably before we get the flying cars we were promised.
