Simon Jordan gave a tongue-in-cheek response to Newcastle fans who unveiled a banner directed at him.

Magpies fans celebrated the one-year anniversary of their takeover from the Saudi Public Investment Fund with a 5-1 thrashing of Brentford.

Supporters couldn’t help but poke fun at Jordan’s comments on talkSPORT as they unfurled a giant banner with his now infamous quote that their takeover was ‘deader than a dead thing from dead land’.

The former Crystal Palace owner was completely wrong with the consortium, led by Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners and backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, finally completing their takeover and replacing the much maligned Mike Ashley.

Jordan has since confessed he got it ‘completely wrong’ after theorising a streaming dispute with Qatar network beIN SPORTS could not be overcome.

Those issues were resolved and now Newcastle are now flying high in sixth place.

Now Jordan has had the chance to respond to the banner, and couldn’t help but give a bit of banter back in their direction.

Speaking to talkSPORT co-host Jim White, Jordan said: “I was surprised by that because you said to me ‘it couldn’t have been the Newcastle fans because they can’t spell’.

“I was surprised to see it so well put together.”

White, who could not wait to remind his co-host of the banner, added: “It is just another in a long series of moments he’s had to do something of a u-turn.”
