Manchester United make ‘approach’ for Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez but face competition from Paris Saint-Germain who want Lionel Messi reunion

Manchester United have made an enquiry about Inter Milan’s Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez, according to reports in Italy.

The Red Devils face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, with Martinez high on the wish list of Europe’s top clubs.

Erik ten Hag could well end up with another Frenkie de Jong situation on his hands, though, with claiming the 25-year-old is happy in Italy.

However, that hasn’t stopped Inter before, with Romelu Lukaku sold to Chelsea for a club record £97million last summer despite finally finding a home in the Italian capital.

Ten Hag eventually had a busy transfer window in his first as United boss, bringing in the likes of Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen.

United are still slightly light up top though, with their 13 goals in eight Premier League games the 10th fewest in the league.

Meanwhile, Martinez is in fine form for Inter with four goals and three assists in 13 games, scoring a goal against Barcelona midweek in the Champions League.

The versatile forward is a regular for Argentina and expected to star at the World Cup alongside Lionel Messi, while he has been linked with a move to join the maestro in Paris with Kylian Mbappe agitating for an early departure.

The reports claim United have now made ‘exploratory approaches’ to Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano, with his current deal expiring in 2026.

Often compared to Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino for his clever runs and link-up play, Martinez is in his fifth season with Inter and has managed 78 goals and 26 assists in 194 appearances since joining from Racing Club for £19million in 2018.
