Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed Mason Greenwood has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour, attempted rape and section 47 assault of a woman.
The Manchester United player - who the club has confirmed is still suspended - has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Monday October 17.
Greenwood was first arrested on January 30 on the suspicion of rape and assault, and was suspended by his Premier League club on the same day.
It came following allegations made on social media that he was violent towards a woman - including various video clips that were later deleted.
The 21-year-old was then further arrested on February 1 on the suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
After spending three days in police custody he was released on bail pending further investigation on February 2.
After his bail was extended twice, Greenwood was then arrested on Saturday for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.
Later the same day [October 15] Greater Manchester Police were authorised by the Crown Persecution Service to charge the footballer.

Janet Potter, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
"All three counts relate to the same complainant.
"Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West's complex casework unit authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police.
"The defendant's first court appearance will take place on October 17 at Greater Manchester Magistrates' Court.
"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial.
"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings."
Man United released a statement on Saturday evening, which said: “Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service.
"He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process.”
Greenwood's last appearance for Manchester United came in January against West Ham.
He has scored 22 goals in 83 Premier League games for the Red Devils.
The forward has been omitted from United’s Europa League squad this season and supporters have been blocked from buying shirts with his name and No. 11 on the back.
Sports manufacturer Nike has also ended its sponsorship deal with the footballer and Electronic Arts (EA) has removed him from active squads in its FIFA computer games.
