Aston Villa eyeing up ambitious swoop for ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as a possible replacement for Steven Gerrard

Mauricio Pochettino could be set for a return to England with Aston Villa reportedly eyeing up an audacious swoop for the former Tottenham boss.
The 50-year-old has been earmarked as a possible replacement for Steven Gerrard following the Villans' 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
The result leaves Villa languishing in 16th spot in the Premier League table after their opening ten games.
They sit just a point above the relegation zone having won only two matches.
Their shocking form has put Gerrard under intense pressure at Villa Park ahead of their upcoming matches against Fulham and Brentford.
According to , Gerrard could be facing the sack should his side not beat the Bees in front of their own fans on Sunday.
Should the Midlands outfit wield the axe on the ex-Rangers gaffer, then Pochettino is the club's No1 priority.
Pochettino has been without a job since he was relieved of his duties by Paris Saint-Germain in July after just 18 months in charge.
Villa are aware it would be a huge task in order to tempt Poch over with the club not in Europe and in the bottom half of the table.
But this won't stop them in their quest to hire the former Southampton manager, who hasn't worked in England since being fired by Spurs in November 2019.
But should Poch show interest in the job, then it has been said that Villa would be prepared to wait for him if he didn't want to make an immediate commitment.
However if he flat out rejects Villa, then Thomas Tuchel and Unai Emery would then be targeted in what would also be hugely ambitious options.
Despite the rumours linking Poch with Villa, talkSPORT's Darren Bent believes he will end up back at Tottenham in the future.
Current Spurs boss Antonio Conte is into the final year of his contract and it remains to be seen whether he will extend his stay in North London.
Bent said: "They [Spurs fans] always speak about him [Pochettino].
"It's always like, 'when we were playing under Poch we played this football. He got us to a Champions League final, I loved watching the football under Poch.'
"The Spurs fans love him. So I think at some stage, we will see him back in that Spurs dugout."
