Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes rivals Manchester United are 'coming back' under Erik ten Hag.

Despite a horrendous start to the 2022/23 season, United are six points adrift of City after taking 20 points from a possible 27.

That run included victories over Arsenal and Liverpool, but also an embarrassing 6-3 defeat in the recent Manchester derby.

The Red Devils have not challenged for the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 - but Guardiola believes they are finally trending in the right direction under his former Bayern Munich colleague Ten Hag.

"I have the feeling United are coming back, finally United is coming back," Guardiola said.

"I've seen it on Thursday (the 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol), and against Chelsea in the first half (of the 1-1 draw last weekend).

"I said I like what I see of United right now. There will be a lot of teams like United fighting. That's why you have to fight to qualify for the Champions League and fight for the title."

However, talkSPORT host Tony Cascarino believes the gap between United and City is still huge.

The ex-Republic of Ireland striker insists we should not read too much into Guardiola's trademark press conference flattery.

"He compliments everybody. In every press conference, he compliments every team and every manager," Cascarino said.

He added: "United have improved, they're making small footsteps.

"But I think the difference between the two Manchester teams will be at least ten points."
