Granit Xhaka lasted just 16 minutes in Arsenal's away clash at Wolves after being substituted to spark fears he could miss the World Cup.

The Switzerland skipper hit the deck within the first two minutes of the 2-0 win at Molineux with the midfielder suffering from illness.

Xhaka appeared to hold his stomach as he fell to the floor, where he decided to play on after receiving treatment.

But he failed to shake off his problem where he was replaced by Fabio Vieira.

Xhaka waved over to the Arsenal bench to signal he couldn't continue, and Mikel Arteta wasted no time in making a swift change.

The 30-year-old has been one of the Gunners' key players this term with the player chipping in with four goals and three assists.

marvelbet369.commentator Clive Tyldesley is of the opinion that Xhaka's early exit was not due to injury, but instead as a result of sickness.

He said: "He doesn’t look quite right.

"He looks unwell to me."

Mikel Arteta revealed after the victory that Xhaka, along with a number of other players, were suffering with sickness.

He said of Xhaka: "He wasn't feeling good, he was feeling sick. We have four more players with those symptoms.

"The good thing is that in context under the circumstances we still came here and won."

Xhaka will be hoping to recover quickly from the bug with the World Cup just a week away.

Switzerland face Cameroon on November 24, where Xhaka will be hoping to lead his country out for their opening game.

Arsenal went into their clash in the Midlands knowing they would sit top of the table heading into Christmas regardless of the result.

Manchester City suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Brentford in Saturday's early kick-off.

Ivan Toney scored a brace at the Etihad, with his winning goal coming in the 98th minute to leave City trailing Arsenal by two points in the table.

But they are now five behind the Gunners after Martin Odegaard scored a second half double against Wolves.
