Former Liverpool star refuses to rule out Anfield return

Former Liverpool ace Xabi Alonso has refused to rule out a move to the MLS - or even a return to Anfield - when his contract at Real Madrid expires in 2016.

The classy Spaniard's future was subject to much speculation earlier this season as his deal at the Bernabeu was set to expire this summer.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea were linked with the 32-year-old, but he eventually penned a two-year extension in January, tying himself to Real Madrid until 2016.

There were also suggestions he would seek a fresh challenge in the MLS, and the playmaker has suggested he could be open to a move to the USA in the future.

When asked about earlier reports that he wanted to finish his career in the United States, he told France Football: "I do not rule out this hypothetical situation in the future. We'll see in two years how I feel.

"I do not rule out anything - not Europe, not Real Sociedad, not staying longer at Real Madrid if, at the end of this new contract, I see I feel well physically."
