Wigan Athletic set to hire ex-Arsenal and Manchester City star Kolo Toure as new manager just days after his brother Yaya rejected the role at the Latics

Kolo Toure is set to be named as the new manager of Championship outfit Wigan Athletic.

Such news comes just days after it was revealed that his brother Yaya had turned down the idea of joining the Greater Manchester side as their new boss.

Despite signing a new three-year deal towards the end of October, Leam Richardson was sacked by Wigan earlier this month.

The Latics were on a poor run of form under his management, having lost six of the last seven games whilst he was in charge.

However, it now seems as though Wigan have found their new man in what is set to be a surprise appointment from the Championship's current 22nd placed side.

Toure, who at the moment is a coach at Premier League outfit Leicester City, is now thought to be the next in line for the role at the DW Stadium.

that Wigan owner Talal Al Hammad has travelled to London in order to complete the appointment of the former Ivory Coast international.

Kolo is thought to be keen on becoming a manager, with the news emerging after the 41-year-old's brother, Yaya, had recently informed the club that he did not want to take up the vacant role.

Wigan were interested in the idea of bringing in the former Barcelona and Manchester City star, but he is now set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur as a youth coach.

Both of the Toure brothers were hugely successful at club level and are now looking towards the next steps of their career in management.

Kolo is set to be the first of the two to become a manager amid the latest developments, with his younger sibling continuing his work with Spurs for the foreseeable future.

Should Toure succeed Richardson, then his first game in charge as Wigan boss will be away at Millwall early in December.
