Australia announce wrong team to face Tunisia on Twitter as they include injured Nathaniel Atkinson in starting XI for World Cup group stage clash

Australia's social media team were guilty of an embarrassing gaffe after accidentally naming injured Nathaniel Atkinson in their line-up to face Tunisia.

The Hearts right-back was ruled out of the Socceroos' World cup group stage clash against the African nation after picking up a knock in the 4-1 defeat to France.

But to the surprise of fans, he was included in the starting XI for the must-win clash in Qatar.

Fans were quick to comment on the Twitter post to remind Australia that Atkinson was unavailable.

And after being alerted of their error, Australia swiftly deleted the post, before naming Fran Karacic in place of Atkinson.

One supporter tweeted: "Atkinson injured lads."

Another messaged: "This is wrong... Atkinson supposedly not playing."

A third added: "I thought Atkinson was injured??"
