Cristiano Ronaldo was guilty of an embarrassing gaffe after mistaking Saudi Arabia for SOUTH AFRICA during his Al-Nassr unveiling.

The 37-year-old was presented to his new adoring fans on Tuesday after agreeing a £177million-a-year contract until 2025 in the Gulf nation.

But Ronaldo will be hoping his mishap during his press conference isn't a sign of things to come as he embarks on his new adventure in Asia.

Speaking to the world's media, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was commenting on his decision to depart Europe, which has been questioned by a number of pundits.

Insisting he has not taken a step backwards in his career, Ronaldo forgot what continent he is now playing in.

He said: ";The evolution of football is different. So for me, it is not the end of my career coming to South Africa.

"This is why I want to change and to be honest I really don't worry about what people say.

"I took my decision and I have a responsibility to change that.

"But for me, I'm really, really happy to be here and I know the league is very competitive."

Ronaldo, who had his contract terminated by mutual consent at Manchester United in November, also revealed how he turned down offers from around the world in order to join Al-Nassr.

He remarked: "I am so proud at making this big decision in my life and my career.

"My work in Europe is done. I played for all the most important clubs.

“I had many opportunities in Europe. Many clubs in Brazil, Australia, in the US and even Portugal.

“For me this is a good chance with my knowledge and experience to grow very important clubs.

“I want to help many different points and the Al-Nassr’s woman’s team. I want to change the perspective of many people.”

Al-Nassr could welcome Ronaldo to the starting XI in their next match on Thursday against Al-Ta’ee.
