Liverpool and Wolves play out four-goal thriller in FA Cup third round tie to force a replay at Molineux as Julen Lopetegui’s side have late winner controversially ruled out for offside

Liverpool and Wolves couldn't be separated at Anfield in their FA Cup third round clash as they played out a 2-2 draw.

The two teams will now face each other in a replay at Molineux later in January, with Wolves left fuming after having a late winner controversially ruled out for offside.

Julen Lopetegui's side broke the deadlock in the 26th minute after Goncalo Guedes capitalised on Alisson's huge blunder.

The Brazilian goalkeeper passed the ball straight to the Portugal forward, who fired home into the empty net.

But the FA Cup holders hit back just before the break after Darwin Nunez equalised with a delightful volley after being picked out by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Mohamed Salah then fired the Reds into the lead seven minutes into the second half in what was his 173rd goal for Liverpool.

In doing so, he has overtaken Kenny Dalglish in the club's scoring charts to become their seventh top scorer of all time.

But Wolves found themselves on level terms in fortuitous fashion in the 66th minute after Ibrahima Konate's tackle ricocheted off Hwang Hee-chan and beyond Alisson.

And Wolves thought they had won it when centre-back Toti Gomes bundled the ball home in the 83nd minute.

He ran to the corner to celebrate where he took his shirt off, only for the linesman to raise his flag.

And VAR agreed that it was offside, despite replays showing that the defender appeared to be level when the cross came in from the left.

Wolves boss Lopetegui was left fuming with the decision, and was shown a yellow card over his protests on the sidelines.

Both teams went in search of the winner, but neither managed to create a clear-cut chance.

Liverpool and Wolves will now play in a replay at Molineux, where extra-time and penalties await if a team once again fails to win in normal time.
