Wout Weghorst spotted at Old Trafford for Manchester United’s huge derby win against Man City – with loan signing labelled ‘genius’ move as Anthony Martial subbed off at half-time

Manchester United's new signing Wout Weghorst was been spotted in the stands at Old Trafford for the Manchester derby.

The Dutch striker has joined on loan for the rest of the season, with talkSPORT being told it's a 'clever signing' from United.

Weghorst could be seen in the directors' box with his daughters as he watched his new side beat bitter rivals Manchester City 2-1.

The 30-year-old was on loan at Besiktas from Burnley earlier in the campaign, but has now made the move back to the Premier League.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino is impressed by United's latest piece of business and is interested to see how he performs.

, he said: "I think it's a very clever signing. One thing he can do, he can lead the line and he can bring other players around him, Man United have got a number of players with pace.

"That doesn't mean United are going to play anything direct, I think it's an option. He's also got great pressing stats, his pressing is exceptional.

"The Burnley record was more to do with goals, did he play poorly for Burnley? Not really, I think there was an expectation on more and it actually didn't suit him that Burnley played quite direct. It didn't suit him, he's a far better footballer than that.

"You don't play for the Dutch national team if you're not good technically and he is clearly that, so I think it's a very clever signing that will give [Erik] Ten Hag lots more options.

"He's around far better footballers at Manchester United than Burnley, that will add to him I think as a footballer."

He added: "I'll be really interested to see how he does, how much he plays and how well he does for Man United.

"I really believe it's one of those strange signings in many people's eyes that can be deemed genius very quickly."

Both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial battled with injuries against City, with the former appearing to pick up a knock.

However, he was able to brush it off and netted a late winner for United.

His 16th goal of the season followed a controversial equaliser from Bruno Fernandes to cancel out Jack Grealish's opener.

Weghorst could soon find himself linking up with the in-form England international after Martial went off at half-time with an apparent injury.
