Chelsea bizarrely add Mykhailo Mudryk to Instagram bio and make public statements on Shakhtar Donetsk winger as they close in on beating Arsenal to transfer

Chelsea have let it be known very publicly that they are closing in on the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Shakhtar Donetsk winger has been a target for Arsenal for some weeks.

The player himself has made it publicly known that he was keen on joining the Gunners.

However, the north London club have not yet reached Shakhtar's valuation and allowed Chelsea to swoop in.

News broke on Saturday that they were close to sealing an £90million deal to bring Mudryk to Stamford Bridge, getting him to sign a seven-year contract.

The deal, as of Sunday morning, was not yet over the line and the club was making some bizarrely public statements about the player.

They added him to their Instagram bio and also encouraged followers to show him some love.

Shakhtar made a public statement about Mudryk, and the Blues quote tweeted it with the eyes emoji.

Chelsea then said in a statement they were 'discussing terms' with Shakhtar.

"Should a deal be agreed between the two clubs then the Ukrainian international, who can operate as a winger or a forward, will discuss personal terms with the Blues ahead of a permanent transfer," the statement added.

It was an unusual turn of events as football clubs are usually closely guarded on transfers and transfer speculation.

Things are running differently at Stamford Bridge under the ownership of Todd Boehly.
