Former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling ‘hands in transfer request’ at Roma amid interest from Juventus, Inter Milan and Tottenham

Chris Smalling has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Roma.
The 33-year-old initially signed for Jose Mourinho's side on loan from Manchester United in 2019.
Smalling's move to the Italian capital was then made permanent the following year.
Having been a bench warmer in his final years at Old Trafford, Smalling has enjoyed a career renaissance in Italy.
However, it seems as though the centre-back's time at the Stadio Olimpico may be coming to an end.
As reported by , Smalling has asked to leave the club.
His current deal at Roma runs until the summer, but he is now unlikely to extend his stay with the club yet to approach him over signing an extension.
There is a chance he could leave before the end of the January transfer window but, if not, then a departure will take place at the end of the season.

Such news comes after reports in December revealed that fellow Italian sides Juventus and Inter Milan are keen on the defender.
A move back to the Premier League could also be on the cards, with reportedly Tottenham joining the race for the experienced centre-back.
Smalling has made 121 appearances in all competitions for Roma since his arrival three-and-a-half years ago.
He has scored ten goals for the side, with three of those coming in the current campaign.
Last season, he won the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League with Roma, keeping six clean sheets on their road to glory.
