Sander Berge a potential target for Fulham as Sheffield United boss confirms they are ‘speaking to other clubs’ amid Liverpool and Chelsea links

Sheffield United are 'speaking to other clubs' about a potential deal to sell Sander Berge this month, says Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom.

The Norwegian midfielder, who has been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea, has been excellent this term for the Blades as they sit comfortably in the automatic promotion spots in the Championship.

Owing to his form, Fulham have entered the race to sign the 24-year-old with talkSPORT transfer expert Alex Crook confirming that he's one of three targets being pursued by Marco Silva's side.

Crook also revealed that they have an eye on two other midfielders ahead of the deadline on Tuesday night.

Speaking on The Boot Room, Crook said: "Fulham, who are possibly one of the teams eyeing a Europa League place this season, I understand that they’re going to be busy between now and the end of the window.

“Sander Berge of Sheffield United was left out of their squad for the FA Cup draw with Wrexham, he’s a potential target for Fulham.

“They’re also in talks with Torino in Italy about the Serbian midfielder Sasa Lukic, they want to sign Andrei, a Brazilian midfielder from Fluminense.

"So Fulham really look like they’re having a go at this European place.”

With Berge firmly in the headlines, it was noted that the midfielder was left out of the matchday squad for Sheffield United's 3-3 draw with Wrexham, something that head coach Heckingbottom confirmed was due to his transfer situation.

Speaking after the FA Cup fourth round clash, Heckingbottom said: "He's not here because we have been asked not to use him. Our club is speaking to other clubs regarding him.

"It doesn't mean he is going anywhere, Sander is happy here. But the situation we find ourselves in mid-takeover, transfer embargo, no clarity on which way it is going and financial issues.

"One way to resolve the issues is to sell a player. Everyone knows my thoughts on it.

"Sander is fine, he wants to stay, he's fine. The clubs could be discussing a fee for Sander and he might want to stay. He wanted to play today but it's a club decision to protect that asset.

"I am not going to say I agree with it but I understand it. I pulled him out on Saturday. I am not daft enough to know it may happen. He was coming and was ready to travel.

"It would be massively disappointing to lose him but we are in an embargo and we have financial problems. One way to get out of that and raise money is selling players.

"I don't want that but we are prepared for that if it happens."
