Transfer news: Arsenal-linked Serie A star insists he had no interest in summer move

Mauro Icardi claims he never wanted to leave Inter Milan during the summer - amid reported interest from Arsenal and Napoli.

Since moving to the San Siro from Sampdoria in the 2013, the striker has scored 56 goals and now captains the side.

But, despite that, the Argentina international was linked with a move away this summer and Arsenal and Napoli were keen.

Icardi, however, denies that he ever tried to force his way out of the club and insists he is happy in Milan.

"I always said I didn't want to leave Inter," Icardi told Tiki Taka.

"I'm happy in Milan, I want to win something in this shirt, and with this great squad we now have an opportunity to do so.

"Was I close to Napoli? I wasn't close, but there was contact. Not just from Napoli, but with my wife who is also my agent. But I hinted to her and to everyone that I wanted to stay in Milan."
