Former Benfica coach reveals Florentino Luis has the talent to play for Liverpool and is likened to Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez and Manchester United’s Casemiro

Former Benfica youth team manager Joao Tralhao believes Florentino Luis has the capability to play for the best teams in Europe.

Luis has had a starring role for Benfica this season having made a huge impact in Roger Schmidt’s team.

Inevitably, it has led to comparisons with Enzo Fernandez for his quality on the ball and control in midfield.

That means he could be the next player to leave for a big sum after Fernandez and Darwin Nunez.

Benfica have had a habit of selling players for large transfer fees and many of them have come through their youth system, with Luis potentially being the next.

Now, former Benifca youth coach Tralhao has said told that he certainly has the talent to play at some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool.

“Technically speaking, it’s not easy to find a midfielder with the defensive qualities he has," Tralhao explained.

"I used to joke with him and say that he saw the game two seconds before everyone else. It’s amazing the amount of interceptions he makes, the way he can be in the right position all the time.

“He is always in the right space to regain the ball and he has improved so much in terms of duels, using his body, protecting the ball in contact and so on. 

“He has the talent and quality to play in elite teams. Remember when Real Madrid had the Galacticos? They needed someone to balance the team, and [Claude] Makelele was so important. 

“More recently, Casemiro did that job, allowing [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Luka] Modric and [Karim] Benzema to attack. Florentino has those capabilities. He’s having an amazing season under Roger Schmidt.

“He can play anywhere, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, anywhere. He would have no problem adapting."

It has been reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been tracking Luis’ progress over the course of the season.

The 23-year-old might cost a lot to get, however, with some claims a fee of €120million [£106m] - his release clause - may convince Benfica to sell.
