West Ham could turn to Michael Carrick to replace David Moyes, who managed him at Manchester United.

Moyes is coming under increasing pressure at the London Stadium, where he is losing the support of the West Ham fans.

There have been some horror show performances this season including at the weekend when they were thrashed 4-0 by Brighton.

The Hammers are in danger of relegation as they sit 16th in the Premier League and are just a point from the bottom three.

talkSPORT understands that owner David Sullivan is reluctant to sack Moyes at this stage, but pressure will only increase if results do not improve.

According to , Carrick is expected to be a contender should Moyes leave West Ham.

The former United star was coached by Moyes for less than a season when the Scotsman took over at Old Trafford for an ill-fated stint in 2013/14.

And Carrick could replace his old mentor in what would be an emotional return to West Ham, the club he began his career with and made 156 appearances before joining Tottenham and then United.

The former midfielder remains a popular figure with West Ham fans while they are desperate for a manager with fresh ideas as Moyes continues to flounder.

Carrick has had a remarkable start to his coaching career, taking Middlesbrough from 21st to third in the space of months having been appointed in October.

Under his tutelage, Boro have lost just four times in the Championship - one being his first game in charge - whilst winning 14 of his 20 games in charge.

There is now a decent chance that the north-east outfit could even overtake Sheffield United in second place, who looked to be running away with promotion earlier in the season but have lost three of their last five league matches.

It would be an incredible achievement to get close, let alone actually landing promotion, while he could end up in the Premier League anyway if West Ham make a move.

However, talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has told Carrick to stick it out at the Riverside Stadium.

“I think if you had the option, (I would pick) Michael Carrick all day long,” he said.

“Middlesbrough are absolutely flying. (If I were him) I am sticking with Middlesbrough.”

West Ham had eyed audacious moves for the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho but none appear interested while the likes of Carlos Corberan and Rafa Benitez have also been linked.
